Spirit of SCH – June Winner – Dr. Remis

Congratulations to Dr. Robert Remis. He is the JUNE Spirit of SCH winner (He’s tough to catch when he’s here for his clinic; note we just turned the page on the calendar to July!) at Scotland County Hospital. He is a Urologist and sees patients at Memphis Medical Services 3 days a month. He started the Urology clinic at Memphis Medical Services in 2020. Here is what his nominator said about him, “He is not only a joy to work with, but he is a ‘hands on’ doctor that is willing to help and teach. As I was getting a patient settled into their room in Med-Surg after surgery, Dr. Remis was walking by the room, jumped right in, and helped me out. I actually went home after work, showered, but kept thinking about the patient, so I came back to the hospital just to check and see how the patient was doing. While I was there, Dr. Remis came in again to check on the patient, and this was around 7 pm. There was a new nurse taking over care that had not done some of the things that needed done with this patient overnight and Dr. Remis said, “Here, let me show you.” As I left the room, he was demonstrating and teaching this new nurse. There are a lot of doctors that do not take the time to help out a nurse or even teach things to nurses. I think he is not only an amazing doctor and surgeon, but he is an amazing person.” Dr. Remis and his wife of 38 years live in Columbia, MO. He is a military child and has lived in and traveled to many countries. He calls Altus, Oklahoma, his hometown since he completed his 9th-12th grade years of school in that town. He earned an Associate degree from Western Oklahoma State College, a BS from University of Oklahoma and his MD from University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He also has a 3rd degree black belt in Hapkido martial arts. His wife is a nurse and they met on the Urology Oncology ward at Oklahoma Memorial Hospital during his residency. They have three adult children.
